We are delighted to welcome Sirocco Winds back to Cockermouth. They are a dynamic wind ensemble comprising Masters and graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Although based in Glasgow, its members come from all over the UK and Spain. They were formed in 2012. Successes for the group include winning the Governors’ Recital Prize for Chamber Music at the RCS, playing live on Classic FM, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Scotland, entertaining guests on the National Trust for Scotland’s cruises in 2017 and 2018, and performing in prestigious music festivals including the St Magnus International Festival, the Cumnock Tryst and Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
Individually, members of the group have worked with orchestras and ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Opera North, the BBC Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.
Robert Digney is a clarinettist and teacher based in Glasgow. He graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2017, and has since carved out a busy freelance career performing across the UK. He regularly performs with all the Scottish orchestras, including the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, with whom he has undertaken several international tours to China, the USA and across Europe.
Here are the Quintet in a video from their visit to Ullapool in 2015. There have been a few lineup changes since, but Sirocco Winds are still a high quality wind ensemble.
