With 32 young musicians and good accompanists taking part this year, this was an evening of great interest and lots of contrast. Composers ranged from Schubert, Kabalevsky and Chopin to Joplin, Sherman and Minchin. Instruments played were cornet, trumpet, violin, clarinet, saxaphone, guitar (sometimes electric),accordion and piano. Singers were also well represented and in spite of the numbers the concert went with a swing and gave us two hours of varied and fascinating performances from all who took part. Many thanks to Martyn Evans for masterminding and compering the proceedings and to Martin Ulyett who assisted the organising and accompanying of the young musicians.
